Clinical Radiology of Exotic Companion Mammals

Radiology is a routine diagnostic procedure in all fields of clinical veterinary practice, and exotic medicine is no exception. Besides an increasing interest and concurrent demand for a higher level of care of these species, very little is reported in the scientific literature about normal radiographic patterns, and radiographic abnormalities are generally limited to case reports.

Feline Liver Disease: Beyond Lipidosis

Lipid storage disorders (or lipidoses) are a group of inherited metabolic disorders in which harmful amounts of lipids (fats) accumulate in some of the body’s cells and tissues.[1] People with these disorders either do not produce enough of one of the enzymes needed to metabolize lipids or they produce enzymes that do not work properly. Over time, this excessive storage of fats can cause permanent cellular and tissue damage, particularly in the brain, peripheral nervous system, liver, spleen and bone marrow.

Advances in Managing Avian Circovirus Infections

Chicken anaemia virus, or CAV, is a virus that affects poultry. CAV causes anaemia, bone marrow atrophy, and severe immunosuppression. Clinical signs of infection of CAV is predominantly found in young chicks due to maternal antibodies present in most adult chickens. The disease is rare today because of the widespread practice of vaccinating breeders, but the subclinical form of the disease is ubiquitous.[1] The vaccine has the ATCvet code QI01AD04.
